Canadian Government Study Recommends Volunteer Work As Diversion For Young Muslims From Turning To Jihad

From Jihad Watch:

Canadian govt study recommends volunteer work for young Muslims as alternative to jihad

Yes, this will work. This will solve everything. All Canadian authorities have to do is remind young Muslims of that celebrated Qur'an verse, "Perform volunteer work for the pagans wherever you find them." "Volunteer work seen as answer to jihad," by Stewart Bell for the National Post, December 8:

TORONTO -- Canada should help Muslim youths perform volunteer work in Afghanistan and Iraq as an alternative to joining violent extremist groups, says a government-funded study.

The report by the British think-tank Demos found that Western Muslims are attracted to jihadist violence partly out of a desire for rebellion and adventure, and "more radical and daring" counter-measures are needed.

Rebellion and adventure? Sure. But also a desire to please Allah and emulate Muhammad, the excellent example of conduct (Qur'an 33:21). But of course the Canadian authorities can't bring themselves to acknowledge that as even a partial motivation, because to do so would raise uncomfortable questions about peaceful Muslims in Canada and the West in general. And so they focus on secondary motivations, centered upon the spectacularly false assumption that devout young Muslims will be happy to channel their desire for rebellion and adventure through an Infidel government-run social work program rather than joining a jihad group.

Volunteer-abroad programs like those offered by Canada World Youth and Crossroads International should be "expanded and promoted to all young people, including those deemed at risk of radicalization to violence," it says.

Yes, by all means, let's bring budding young jihadis into Canada World Youth and Crossroads. It will certainly make things interesting for the hapless young Infidels who find themselves in some remote corner of the world bunking with the next Adam Gadahn. "Rebellion and adventure" in spades!

"Opportunities to travel and volunteer abroad cannot only channel energy and engender a concern for others, but also take the glamour out of the al-Qaeda narrative and increase appreciation of Western citizens for the rights granted in their own countries."

Only a tone-deaf secularist who has never studied Islam, never read the Qur'an, and never bothered even to try to understand the power of religious motivations, could have written such a sentence.

The recommendation is one of many in The Edge of Violence, a two-year study of homegrown radicalization in Canada, the United Kingdom, Denmark, France and the Netherlands. [...]

It also says all new and existing Muslim imams should be forced to pass a national language proficiency test, and calls for the increased deployment of Muslim police officers in areas where engagement with Muslims is important.

Yes, of course. And when recruiting those Muslim police officers, don't dare make any attempt to determine what they think of the jihad doctrine, Islamic supremacism, etc. That would be "Islamophobic," and besides, it would spoil all the fun.
