Iraq: The Obama Speech

From Gateway Pundit:

Charles Krauthammer on Obama’s Iraq Speech: “It Was Both Flat and Odd”from Gateway Pundit by Jim HoftCharles Krauthammer commented tonight on Barack Obama’s Iraq speech:

“It Was Both Flat and Odd.”

7:27 PM (3 hours ago)Obama Says He Called Bush – But Doesn’t Thank Him or Give Him Credit on Surge (Video)from Gateway Pundit by Jim HoftIn his address to the nation tonight Barack Obama mentioned that he called President Bush today but he does not thank him or give him credit for the successful Bush Surge… The successful surge that Obama vehemently opposed.

Sad.

Popout

He obviously didn’t take Sarah Palin’s good advice.

From Fire Andrea Mitchell:

Obama Iraq oval office speech “Perplexing” to progressive liberal CNN mouthpiece David Gergenfrom Fire Andrea Mitchell! by adminA hint to Obama’s advisers. Stop the oval office speeches! Both of them, this one which was supposed to be about Iraq, but bobbled all over the place like Obama’s head with a teleprompter, and the BP oil spill speech were disasters! Let’s ignore the fact that Obama couldn’t even bring himself to admit he was wrong about the Iraq surge, and give Bush credit for how well it ended up working in the end. We can also ignore an “End of combat in Iraq” speech morphing into talking points about Afghanistan and the disastrous progressive controlled economy. But you can’t ignore how Obama can’t even bring himself to show some emotion and actually have a point you are trying to make! Of course, progressive liberals will probably just call a rightwing nut hater for saying such things, but can they explain David Gergen’s statement that the speech was “perplexing”?

Obama says he spoke to President Bush this morning before the address, and acknowledges it’s “well known” they disagreed on the war. Obama said that despite their disagreements, “No one can doubt President Bush’s support for our troops, or his love of country.”

Obama never thanked or gave credit to Bush for the surge, which was a crucial step to get to where we are now, a crucial step that Obama strongly opposed and repeatedly said would never work.

H/T: Gateway Pundit

From Gateway Pundit:

8:55 PM (1 hour ago)McCain on Obama’s Speech: I’m Not Surprised He Didn’t Thank Bush, That’s Just Not In His DNA (Video)from Gateway Pundit by Jim HoftSenator John McCain spoke with Sean Hannity on Barack Obama’s Iraq speech tonight. John McCain said, “I’m not surprised he didn’t thank Bush. That’s just not in the DNA of the individual, apparently.”

McCain wasn’t impressed with Obama’s lackluster speech

And From Fire Andrea Mitchell:

ObamaFAIL: January 2007 Obama not persuaded that troop surge in Iraq would solve sectarian violence

How quickly Obama and his mouthpieces in his regime and in the media forget. Remember back in January of 2007, the night when the surge was announced? Did Obama come out in support of the surge? Uh, nope:

“I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq are going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse.”

According to the Weekly Standard, just one week later, Obama insisted the surge strategy would “not prove to be one that changes the dynamics significantly.” And in reaction to the president’s January 23 State of the Union address, Obama said,

I don’t think the president’s strategy is going to work. We went through two weeks of hearings on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; experts from across the spectrum--military and civilian, conservative and liberal--expressed great skepticism about it. My suggestion to the president has been that the only way we’re going to change the dynamic in Iraq and start seeing political commendation is actually if we create a system of phased redeployment. And, frankly, the president, I think, has not been willing to consider that option, not because it’s not militarily sound but because he continues to cling to the belief that somehow military solutions are going to lead to victory in Iraq.
