Somali insurgents killed by own bombsfrom Audacity Of Hypocrisy by adminMOGADISHU, Somalia, Aug. 21 (UPI) — An explosion at a house used as a bomb-making center by the Somali militant group al-Shabaab killed several people, a member of the group said Saturday.
The unnamed militant described the dead as “top fighters” and said they included both Somalis and foreigners, Garowe Online reported. The man said two vehicles loaded with explosives to be aimed at African Union peacekeepers and Somali security forces blew up.
Sheik Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansoor, deputy leader of al-Shabaab, owns the house in Mogadishu.
Maj. Barigye Bahuko, a spokesman for AMISOM, the African Union military mission, said there had been advance warning of potential attacks and AMISOM is prepared. AMISOM had asked al-Shabaab and other insurgent groups to declare a truce during the holy month of Ramadan.
The government reported another insurgent death, a man killed by his own bomb in the Waaberi neighborhood of Mogadishu.
