DOHA: The need for a stronger cooperation and unity in this region with the present political and social transform was highlighted at the sixth annual forum held by the Al Jazeera network, yesterday.

“Change must be there without new divisions. We want strong states. And we believe that after this transformation, states in our region will be stronger,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister Proferssor Ahmet Davutoglu.

“What we need is more unification and more unity,” he said delivering a keynote on ‘The Arab World in Transition: Has the Future Arrived?’

He also explained that the regional cooperation needs to be strengthened without intervention from one country to another.

“No intervention but there should be regional cooperation. Politicians of this region should come together in order to decide what we need for the region. There should be more regional forums, not only meetings but opportunities for interaction among the intellectuals and media of our region,” said Davutoglu.

He also said that legal status of states and territory should not be changed during the transformation process in the region.

Davutoglu at this session spoke to an audience of an international mix of politicians, journalists, analysts, academics, intellectuals, traditional and new media experts, activists, bloggers and strategists.

The Turkish Foreign Minister also said that change and transformation in the Middle East was a social necessity, adding, “no leader should think that he could rule forever.”

He stressed that this transition should be given to an institution not to a person and in the same way a good military does not involve in political institutions.

“The transition should be to the civilian politicians,” said Davutoglu.

Davutoglu said that the theme of this year’s Al Jazeera Forum ‘Has the Future Arrived?’ overlapped recent developments in the Middle East adding, “Yes, the future has arrived.”

“The present change is natural law of history and the future is essential common destiny. This common destiny is the main feature for our future,” he added.

Davutoglu said that democracy has been delayed in the Middle East for years due to several reasons but history should become normalised now.

“Some countries thought that Arab nations do not deserve democracy. They acted to prevent Islamic radicalisation,” he said.

“Everybody deserves democracy. People’s demand should be respected,” he added.

“Young people and the people of the region do not want a luxurious life. They just want to see respect.”

Davutoglu also urged leaders in the region to respect change as no leader should think that they will be in power forever and must trust their nations and its citizens.
