FromThe Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report:
Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood Political Party Will Be Open To All Who Accept Its Terms
The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood website is reporting on comments by an Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader that the new political party planned by the Egyptian Brotherhood will be “open to all Egyptians who accept the terms of its program after it has been founded.” According to the report:
Mohsen Radi, former member of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) parliamentary bloc and a member of the People’s Parliament, has announced that the Freedom and Justice party’s membership will be open to all Egyptians who accept the terms of its program after it has been founded. “Non-Brothers and Copts are expected to assume leadership positions in the party,” he said. Mohsen Radi underlined the significance of maintaining the spirit of the revolution, and challenging attempts to counter the revolution’s gains have been working to keep the status quo and avoid the real change, calling for young Brothers to form popular committees to assist the Egyptian police in maintaining the country’s security and protecting people.
The report did not explain what the “terms of its program” will be and a previous post has discussed comments by another Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader who said that the Egyptian Brotherhood’s new political party would continue to insist that women and Christians are “unsuitable for the presidency.
It should be noted that the Muslim Brotherhood today has become a global network and that the Egyptian mother branch is not necessarily the most important part of the movement. Sheikh Youssef Qaradawi, close to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, is often referred to by the GMBDR as the most important leader of the global Muslim Brotherhood, an acknowledgement of his role as the de facto spiritual leader of the movement. In 2004, Qaradawi turned down the offer to lead the Egyptian Brotherhood after the death of the Supreme Guide
